Women’s hormonal health is often surrounded by confusion, especially when it comes to PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease). Many people use the two terms interchangeably, but experts now stress that the correct term is PCOS.

Unlike PCOD, which mainly refers to the presence of cysts in the ovaries, PCOS is a syndrome, a collection of symptoms that go beyond the reproductive system and can affect overall health.

“PCOS cannot be ‘cured’, but it can be well managed with lifestyle changes, medical treatment when needed, and regular follow-ups. Early intervention helps reduce the risk of infertility, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases,” says Dr Kiran Coelho, Senior Gynaecologist at Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai.
