JONESBORO, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A financial controversy is brewing in the city of Jonesboro and questions are now being raised about Mayor Donya Sartor’s handling of public funds.

A special city council meeting called for Tuesday night to address the issue was canceled, reportedly due to the required 48-hour notice not being met. But the matter didn’t end there.

The Jonesboro Downtown Development Authority (DDA) announced it is moving forward with a financial audit—not just of its own books, but also of the city’s finances—to determine whether lines have been blurred between city spending and DDA responsibilities.

The DDA held a board meeting Tuesday night, and Atlanta News First was in the room. At times, so was Mayor Donya Sartor, who is a member of the DDA board.
