Public Action Committee (PAC), a people-led group, has urged the Ludhiana district administration to restore the statue of Maha Vir Chakra awardee Major Bhupinder Singh, a 1965 Indo-Pak war veteran, at its original place Bharat Nagar Chowk in the heart of Ludhiana city.
PAC members at a press conference here said the statue, along with a captured Pakistan Army tank, were placed at Ludhiana ’s bustling roundabout Bharat Nagar Chowk for decades and were an identity of the city, but later the memorial was removed from the chowk and never restored.
“The statue of Major Singh and the captured tank, which once stood at Bharat Nagar Chowk and were an inseparable part of the city’s history and pride, have been missing. At their place, Hero Cycles has installed its bicycle model and insignia. E
