PHOENIX — A government shutdown is in effect, putting hundreds of thousands of federal workers at risk of being furloughed or laid off.
Senators rejected two plans that would have kept the government open. One was backed by Democrats and one was backed by Republicans.
The last time the government shut down was when President Donald Trump was in office.
Arizona officials are reacting, sharing who they believe is at fault and why they think this shutdown has occurred.
Senator Ruben Gallego said in a statement that the government shutdown is on "Trump and Republicans," citing that Democrats are making clear they would support a budget that continues the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits.
