India’s online shopping season has kicked off with a bang this year, marked by record-breaking sales from Amazon’s Great Indian Festival and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days.

In the first week alone, sales on online platforms reached Rs 60,700 crore, reflecting a 29% increase compared to the previous year. Market research firm Datum Intelligence forecasts that this year’s total festive sales could surpass Rs 1.2 lakh crore, indicating an even hotter market than last year’s nearly Rs 1 lakh crore.

A significant driver of this impressive start is the robust sales of mobile phones, which alone accounted for 42% of the total sales. Additionally, household appliances and grocery items also saw remarkable growth, with sales increasing by 41% and 44% respectively.
