JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed in a traffic crash Thursday night on Jacksonville's Southside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

According to JSO, the crash happened around 8:12 p.m. in the 10900 block of Old Gainesville Road.

Police said the man, identified only as a man in his late 40's, was in the center of the roadway when he was hit by a westbound Toyota two-door vehicle. The impact threw the man into the eastbound lane, where he was struck again by a Toyota four-door sedan.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

JSO says both drivers stayed at the scene and are cooperating with detectives.
