Documents provided to The New Mexican , interviews with current and former state workers and emails obtained through public records requests show the state Public Education Department produced several drafts of a plan to respond to a 2018 ruling in the landmark education lawsuit Yazzie/Martinez v. State of New Mexico, in which a judge found the state’s education system was not sufficiently serving its most disadvantaged children.

None of those drafts was ever finalized or adopted, even after several were sent to the Governor’s Office for review, feedback and approval.
