HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - University of Hawaii at Manoa Scientists have just released results from more than a year long study on the key to restoring Hawaii’s coral populations.

Researchers say these ceramic structures placed in Kaneohe Bay last September are housing about 80 times more baby coral compared to flat surfaces and helped them survive up to 50 times better.

Teams say the spiral design mimics natural reef crevices that protect juvenile corals from predators, algae overgrowth and waves sweeping them away.
