HILO (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Hawaii Police Department held a private memorial service on Tuesday to honor the life and service of K9 Archer, a valued member of the department’s Vice Section.

The ceremony was limited to police personnel, invited dignitaries, K9 handlers, and guest speakers at the Police Memorial Wall in Hilo.

K9 Archer passed away on Sept. 4, 2025, after being left unattended in a police vehicle.

Administrative and criminal investigations into the circumstances of his death are ongoing.

Over the course of his five-year career, K9 Archer was deployed 169 times and conducted more than 3,200 screenings.

His work directly supported operations that resulted in significant drug seizures, including:

• Nearly 26.4 pounds of methamphetamine.

• More than one pound of heroin.
