CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio – Recalled Mayor Kahlil Seren announced Tuesday that he fired Law Director Bill Hanna on what is Seren’s final day in office.

The announcement, sent by the city’s communications director, came at 4:54 p.m., making it one of Seren’s final acts as mayor.

Seren will be formally removed from office Wednesday morning when the city receives the certified results of the Sept. 9 primary election that saw more than 82% of voters choose to throw him out of office.

City Council President Tony Cuda is scheduled to be sworn in as acting mayor at a special council meeting set to for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Cuda has the ability to reappoint Hanna to the position of law director if council approves.

Cuda said Tuesday afternoon that he was looking into the situation.
