**Murder Probe Launched After Fatal Assault at Hospital**
Detectives have initiated a murder investigation following a tragic assault at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith, London. The incident occurred on Thursday, 18 September, when officers from the Metropolitan Police were alerted to reports of a patient being attacked by another patient within the hospital premises.
The victim, identified as 85-year-old Andrew Farmer from Ealing, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, 25 September. His family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers during this difficult time.
A 70-year-old man, Anatoliy Podmazko, was arrested shortly after the assault took place. Podmazko, who has no fixed address, was charged on Saturday, 20 September, with grievous bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, 17 October.
The investigation is ongoing, with officers collaborating closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to ensure a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Paul Wrigley, Andrew’s partner of 60 years, expressed his grief, stating, "My partner through thick and thin for 60 years. Now sadly missed. An Oxford First – whatever he touched, he touched deeply – opera, Devon topography, the underprivileged. Scholarly but with a wry sense of humour. Rest now, my dear friend."
Detective Inspector Kirsten Hadleigh, who is overseeing the investigation, conveyed her condolences, saying, "Our thoughts remain with Andrew’s family and friends at this undoubtedly difficult time. We remain in close contact with Andrew’s loved ones and are keeping them up to date with the progress of our investigation."
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are committed to uncovering the full details of this tragic event.
