A young woman was sexually assaulted by her former partner at his family home during her first overnight stay - and he will serve just 19 months behind bars.

Rio Wager, now 22, was merely 18 when she was attacked by her then-boyfriend Michael Brown, now 23.

In August 2021 Rio, who has waived her lifelong anonymity, was spending the night at his family home for the first time.

Brown requested permission from his parents for them both to stay overnight on the condition they would sleep in separate bedrooms.

As Rio found herself unable to fall asleep she went to Brown's bedroom to watch a film together.

Brown, who was 19 at the time, requested sexual intercourse to which Rio agreed, but started to feel uneasy.
