JuaMoto Sunfired Cuisine, a vegan restaurant, has signed a lease with the city of Charlotte to open a new location in the University City Boulevard parking deck.

The restaurant closed a previous location in Concord on Sept. 28, but did not provide a reason. Owner and founder Tau Khamisi Mkweli announced the closing of the Concord location in an Instagram post the following day.

“We’re grateful for all the love and support you’ve given us here, and we’re excited to share that our grand opening in our new home is set for January 2026! Until then, stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated on pop-ups and surprise servings in Columbia, SC and Charlotte,” an Instagram post from Mwkeli read.

The restaurant gets its name from two Swahili words: “Jua” (sun) and “moto” (fire). Its menu includes salads,
