Ghost of Yotei has almost the same basic structure as its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima , but the two games' maps are quite different. Yotei has been advertised as having Sucker Punch's largest map to date, and it's clearly true. The sequel similarly splits its open-world map into distinct zones, but there are some key differences in how they are put together.

Yotei 's wandering samurai tale is set in Ezo, the Japanese island now known as Hokkaido, which is much larger than the island of Tsushima. Despite the real-life size difference of about 32,000 square miles, Yotei 's play area does not dwarf Tsushima 's, even if it is larger. Sucker Punch does a couple of things to cleverly convey the size of Ezo while not abandoning the content density of Tsushima .
