Country music singer Granger Smith’s wife, Amber Smith, opened up recently about the dark days that followed the death of the couple’s young son six years ago.

River Smith, 3, died in a drowning accident, and in a recent piece with People Magazine, Amber revealed that Granger attempted to take his own life in the days that followed.

“He was out with the guys in Boise, Idaho, one night for a show,” she told People. “They walked over to the local bar, laughed, and told old stories, all while drinking more than he had since River died. When the evening wrapped up, he found himself drunkenly walking back to his tour bus alone.”

Amber told People that Granger had not been drunk “in a really long time,” so he grabbed his weed pen “and took a hit, hoping it would bring him out of his drunk
