Ryan Walters has resigned as Oklahoma's State Superintendent of Public Instruction, effective Sept. 30, according to a letter submitted to Gov. Kevin Stitt, Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton, and House Speaker Kyle Hilbert.

In his letter, Walters called serving in the elected role "one of the highest honors any citizen can be entrusted with" and said he was grateful to Oklahomans for giving him the responsibility.

"After much thought and prayer, I have decided that at the end of today, September 30, 2025, I will step down from my position as Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction," Walters wrote.
