DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — An ocean cargo carrier that has in recent years made several visits to the Saginaw River has been abandoned by its crew in the Gulf of Aden after being hit by a missile attack that badly damaged the vessel and injured two of its crew.
According to reporting from The Associated Press , the Dutch-flagged ship Minervagracht was on fire as 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1. It was believed that the attack was orchestrated by Yemen’s Houthi rebels that had threatened to strike ships as part of the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip, the AP reported.
There was a Sept. 23 attack on the Minervagracht also in the Gulf of Aden, according to the AP, which quoted the vessel’s owner who described the more recent strike as “inflicting substantial damage to the ship.”
