After rolling out entrance ramp metering along Interstate 96 in Oakland County , the Michigan Department of Transportation is reminding drivers to pull all the way up to the stop line on red lights.

Oakland County added traffic lights to eight freeway ramps on the I-96 Flex Route this summer in an effort to control the flow of traffic entering the freeway, according to an MDOT news release .

Now, MDOT is adding temporary signs along the I-96 Flex Route to remind drivers of the ramp meter rules.

How do ramp meters work?

If a driver approaches a red light on their way to entering the freeway, a driver should stop, and make sure to pull all the way up to the stop bar white line to ensure sensors at the ramp are triggered correctly.
