One of the biggest challenges of being a high school swim coach is finding available pool time for their swimmers.

Sarah Dunn, the swim coach for programs at Hudson’s Bay and Fort Vancouver, has a unique solution to that.

“I love open water swimming,” Dunn said. “It’s one of things I love to do as a swimmer. And I introduced it to my high school swimmers over the past few summers, and I have a few kids who have really gotten into it. So we try to make it a regular weekly thing over the summer.”

Dunn said she takes her swimmers to Horseshoe Lake in Woodland, Fallen Leaf Lake in Camas and her favorite local swimming hole — Klineline Pond in Salmon Creek.
