First in 557 years, Nishan Sahib hoisted at historic site of Guru Nanak Dev in Baku, Azerbaijan

Baku/Gurdaspur, October 1, 2025: In a historic moment, the Nishan Sahib has been hoisted for the first time in 557 years at a sacred site associated with Guru Nanak Dev in Baku, Azerbaijan.
According to Dr. Gurinderpal Singh Josan, Chairman of Saragarhi Foundation and President of Sikhs in America (New York), this marks a significant milestone in Sikh history.
He revealed that within the ancient religious structure, built during the 2nd–3rd century, the walls outside two rooms (No. 7 and 10) still bear inscriptions of the Mool Mantar in Gurmukhi script.
