MOTT HAVEN, The Bronx (PIX11) – A gas explosion rippled through a Bronx apartment building on Wednesday morning, causing it to partially collapse, according to the FDNY.
Firefighters said it happened around 8:10 a.m. at 207 Alexander Ave., which is where the NYCHA Mitchel Houses are located. A garbage incinerator piped through the whole building gave way, according to the FDNY.
Parents told PIX11 News that they were taking their children to P.S. 154 Jonathan D. Hyatt Elementary School across the street when they heard a loud noise.
“I saw two little kids and a mom, they were walking, but the building collapse on them,” said a woman who witnessed the collapse. “It collapsed on them, so I think they’re [firefighters] trying to take them out over there, and it’s been a while since they’ve
