CEDAR FALLS, Iowa —

The University of Northern Iowa is celebrating 150 years of serving students, marked by the ringing of the commemorative Sesquicentennial Bell. It's a new tradition for the Cedar Falls university.

Campus and community members came together for the event on Monday, which coincides with the start of homecoming week. The theme this year is "Panthers Through Time." A parade rolls through downtown Cedar Falls at 11 a.m. Saturday before the Panther football team takes the field in the UNI-Dome at 4 p.m.

UNI volleyball, softball, swimming and diving, and women's rugby also have home events.

The 150th anniversary celebration will wrap up at UNI's homecoming in 2026.
