'Ghost signs' are a regular occurrence across the capital and one Edinburgh local recently discovered one in a seaside neighbourhood.

The signs are often discovered when renovation work is being carried out on the facade of a building with many premises preferring to keep the phenomenon on show.

One resident captured the livery left on a building at Morton Street, Joppa, when it was a former Newsagent Grocer and Confectioner - M.Y.Oswald.

In the image, along the top it appears to have layers of writing, suggesting it has changed businesses over the years, but the words 'confectioner', 'tobacconist' and 'newsagent' are clearly visible.

It's understood the grocers belonged to Mark Oswold and it was open from 1952 to 1972.
