The Newark Housing Authority settled federal lead-based paint violations with the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, according to a joint statement from the EPA and HUD.
The agreement requires the Newark Housing Authority to conduct lead-based paint testing and abatement across 11 properties built before 1978, officials said.
About 5,500 residents live across the 11 agency buildings, and the housing authority must comply with lead hazard disclosure regulations, improve staff training and ensure safer renovations, officials said.
