While the app first made its way into app stores in 2021, it was only recently that it saw a massive spike in popularity, thanks to endorsement by the Indian government, social media buzz, and its status as a Made in India app. In fact, with its 100x surge in user sign-ups and traffic on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, it appears it might challenge Meta’s messaging app WhatsApp.
