Mumbai, Oct 1 (PTI) Maharashtra had over 92 per cent pendency for the Indian Penal Code (IPC) cases that went into trial in 2023, as per the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data.
The state's conviction rate in 2023 was 49.3 per cent, significantly lower than that of states like Kerala (88.9), Uttar Pradesh (74.9) and Andhra Pradesh (62.7). Mizoram at 95.1 per cent had the highest conviction rate in the country.
As many as 24,14, 487 IPC cases went into trial (including those from the previous year), but only 1,82,636 cases were decided by the courts in the state, the data showed.
As many as 22,31,851 cases were undecided by the end of 2023.
Bihar has the highest pendency rate of 98.9 per cent in the country, while Mizoram has the lowest rate of 59 per cent.
Crimes such as
