National Park Service sites in Kentucky appear to be operating without several services normally offered to visitors after a federal government shutdown began Oct. 1.

While roadways and trails accessible 24 hours a day are allowed to remain open, according to a National Park Service contingency plan published by the Department of Interior in September 2025, facilities and areas locked or secured during non-business hours are to be closed for the duration of the shutdown.

Seven sites managed by the National Park Service are in Kentucky, including Mammoth Cave National Park in Edmonson, Hart and Barren counties. The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace in Hodgenville, a national historical park, is also managed by the National Park Service.
