GRAND FORKS – After the federal government shut down early Wednesday morning, Grand Forks city and industry leaders said they don’t expect the city to see a large impact for now.
The shutdown occurred at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday after Democrats and Republicans were unable to come to an agreement over adding an extension of health benefits to federal funding legislation. The shutdown will force an estimated 750,000 federal workers across the country to be furloughed and will put a halt to nonessential government services.
Despite the impact at the federal level, Mayor Brandon Bochenski said he doesn’t have any major concerns for the city of Grand Forks.
