The new arena at the Grand Sierra Resort should provide a huge boost for Nevada men's basketball recruiting efforts.
Wolf Pack head coach Steve Alford, speaking at Tuesday's groundbreaking ceremony, said the arena is already being used to entice recruits to play for the Wolf Pack.
The ceremonial groundbreaking for the $435 million arena project was held Tuesday in the northwest corner of the parking lot, where bulldozers and other heavy equipment are already on site and excavation work has begun.
The arena will be home to the Nevada men's basketball team and possibly to a minor-league hockey franchise. It is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
Alford said the GSR staff made a video about the new arena, and he and his staff are using it when they visit recruits.
