NAEP scores for class of 2024 show major declines, with fewer students college ready
Students from the class of 2024 had historically low scores on a major national test administered just months before they graduated.
Results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP , released Sept. 2 show scores for 12th graders declined in math and reading for all but the highest performing students, as well as widening gaps between high and low performers in math. Chalkbeat reports that more than half of these students reported being accepted into a four-year college, but the test results indicate that many of them are not academically prepared for college, officials said.
