SALINEVILLE, Ohio — Three Southern Local High School freshmen spent part of their summer overseas after being chosen to play in an international basketball exchange program in Morocco.

Emma Boyle, Kalayah Crute and Katie Kellogg participated in the Varsity Athletic Club’s 2025 International Dream Team youth exchange from July 10-18, joining about 100 athletes from around the world. The three were among 12 girls from Ohio selected for the first coed edition of the event, which had previously featured all-male teams, according to the Jefferson County Educational Service Center.

The Ohio contingent included 20 players from the Akron-Canton area who competed in Amateur Athletic Union basketball. Boyle, Crute and Kellogg also built their skills in junior high at Southern Local, where they hel
