Human trafficking is the specific focus of a Sault Ste. Marie Police Service officer this year.
Ministry of the Solicitor General is funding the position, Chief Brent Duguay told reporters following a meeting of Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Board on Sept. 24.

“ From our perspective it’s an enforcement role,” he said.
Victims “potentially are being trafficked” in the city or transported through the community, Duguay added.
The officer works in the crime suppression and drug enforcement units and will network with partner agencies “to help prevent human trafficking and enforce laws around it,” said spokesperson Lincoln Louttit.
