On Tuesday (Sept. 30) hundreds of people gathered at Kirkland Lake’s Civic Park for the annual Keepers of the Circle Every Child Matters Powwow.
The event, which marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, was a place and time where Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities came together to reflect on the past and look to a better future.

In an interview with the Northern News, Beaverhouse First Nation Chief Wayne Wabie said it could not have been a better day.
“To have all of these people come out and be a part of it, is just absolutely fabulous (and with) the number of dancers and drummers we have, it is just a beautiful day.”
Wabie added the fact the size of the crowds, the participation, has grown is a very encouraging sign.
