Local agencies teamed up today to promote this year's National Fire Protection Association's fire prevention week that focuses on lithium-ion battery safety.
The campaign is called, "Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home," a news release said. Lithium-ion batteries can create hazards when damaged or used incorrectly, and those power everyday items, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, e-cigarettes and other electronics.
Misuse and damage can lead to overheating, starting a fire or exploding, the news release said.
