Chicago Bears defensive back Josh Blackwell earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors Wednesday for blocking a potential game-winning field goal Sunday in Las Vegas.
With less than a minute on the clock, Daniel Carlson lined up for a 54-yard field-goal try that would’ve put the Raiders ahead. Blackwell flew across the edge and dived toward the football, fully extending his body and getting a hand on Carlson’s kick.
The block preserved a 25-24 victory for the Bears, who improved to 2-2 heading into a Week 5 bye.
Blackwell said after the game the Bears had identified a minuscule tell from Raiders long snapper Jacob Bobenmoyer, who tilted the ball ever so slightly before snapping it. Bears long snapper Scott Daly noticed it on film and mentioned it to the special teams group. Blac
