STATEWIDE -- October is pedestrian safety month.

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety says it’s the beginning of fewer daylight hours which makes it harder to see people that are walking.

In the past 4 years, 14 percent of Maine traffic related fatalities were pedestrians.

Maine Bureau of Highway Safety Director Lauren Stewart says quote: “Pedestrian safety is a two-way street. It is important for drivers to be extra cautious on roadways that have a lot of foot traffic. Pedestrians want to do everything they can to be more visible.
