Jane Goodall, the legendary British primatologist and anthropologist died on Wednesday. She was 91.
Goodall, whose real name was Valerie Jane Morris Morris-Goodall, succumbed due to natural causes, a post on her Facebook post said.
She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States; the last time she visited Wisconsin , she made a pit stop in Madison at the Wisconsin Union. Dr. Goodall spoke to a crowded room for a lecture. The second to last time she was in Madison, she attended an Earth Day Conference hosted by Nelson Institute in 2013.
Goodall carried six decades of expertise on chimpanzees. She founded the Jane Goodall Institute and Roots and Shoots and was a tireless advocate for Earth's protection.
