SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Savannah’s City Hall will light up purple.

October was federally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989 when Congress passed Public Law 101-112.

You will be able to see the purple hue beginning at sunset from Wednesday until Saturday. This observation is in partnership with SAFE Shelter Center for Domestic Violence.

SAFE Shelter has served the community in Savannah for over 45 years, they say last year their outreach and follow-up/aftercare program provided services to 1,457 victims.
