When the Perrysburg Board of Education dropped the bomb last week — warning that all extracurriculars will be eliminated if another levy fails this November — my first reaction was probably the same as yours.
Yeah, right.
No band? No choir? No theater? No … sports?!
In a town where some 6,000 fans pack Steinecker Stadium on autumn Friday nights — where the Yellow Jackets’ athletic success is such a source of civic pride — I would sooner believe Mr. Freeze taking ice cream off the menu.
It sounded like a hollow scare tactic to make taxpayers flinch.
“I think that’s a natural reaction,” Perrysburg High School athletic director Chuck Jaco said, "because it is so unfathomable to take away athletics from our student-athletes and our community.”
Well, cue the record scratch.
