The BC Girl Guides are warning customers to be on the lookout for Girl Guide Cookie scams, as the yearly fundraiser returns to British Columbia.

The fundraiser – which sees boxes of chocolate mint cookies sold for $6 each – raises money for the Girl Guides organization that offers programs like science, outdoor adventures, international travel, art projects and skill building for girls.

This year, however, the organization is warning of scams that have been circulating in B.C., with reports coming from the Sooke area as recently as Tuesday.

“There have been recent scam attempts observed on Vancouver Island, in the Kootenays, and elsewhere in B.C., by unrelated individuals creating brand-new accounts on Facebook, joining community discussion groups to solicit e-transfers,” said the Girl
