LYONS, Ore. - Linn County received a $35,000 donation from a local family with pioneering roots to renovate a picnic shelter at John Neal Memorial County Park near Lyons, according to the Linn County Board of Commissioners.
The Avery family said that their roots in the Santiam Canyon stretch back to 1902, and this donation reflects their ongoing commitment to the area. The shelter, originally built in 1971 to honor the Avery brothers, will see improvements including cedar-wrapped ceilings and beams, stainless steel countertops, and updated water facilities. Stacey Whaley, Linn County Parks and Recreation Director, highlighted plans for additional enhancements like a modern BBQ grill and an arbor.
