There are only 100 people in the country who will receive the Medallion Award, given to those who exemplify civic leadership, this year. One of them is a 9-year-old boy from Des Moines.

From spreading the importance of voting, to gifting items to the homeless, to gathering a neighborhood cleanup crew, Henry Charles Ernest Menninga's ideas that turned into actions led to the National Association of Secretaries of State crowning him as the youngest person to earn the national award on July 9.

"I'm just helping people and I feel like that's the most important thing," Henry said. "That's what I literally do everything for."
