The government shutdown also means federal funding for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – Education, which supports low-income families, runs out Wednesday.

Food pantries said the closure will affect everyone, while school programs fear losing the program will impact how children learn and change what they’re exposed to.

The SNAP-Ed team said they received confirmation that they can use carryover funds for now. Those funds would only be used for a short period of time to keep some programming going.
