SALT LAKE CITY – A significant leadership change is anticipated for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints following the recent passing of President Russell M. Nelson.

Dallin Oaks, a former Utah Supreme Court justice, is expected to be named the next president of the Church. Oaks is the longest-serving member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, positioning him as the next in line for the presidency according to long-standing tradition.

The Church, with more than 17 million members worldwide, is preparing for this transition. The formal announcement is likely to occur after President Nelson’s funeral, scheduled for October 7. Nelson was 101 years old at the time of his passing.
