Researcher, primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall is dead at 91

“The Jane Goodall Institute has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute has passed away due to natural causes,” the organization she founded announced Wednesday.

Goodall was in California on a speaking tour at the time of her death.

The institute credited its founder as a revolutionary researcher and “tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world” on Facebook.

Goodall, an English native, is regarded as one of the world’s foremost experts on primates, though she said in 2015 that dogs are her favorite animals.
