State Sen. Jeff Yarbro (D-Nashville) is calling the deployment of Tennessee National Guard troops to Memphis “lawless” and raised questions about a now-withdrawn legal opinion that he says refutes the constitutionality of the deployment.
“What the governor of Tennessee is doing this week is unprecedented. It is part of something that is unprecedented in the history of this nation, and the country is standing knee deep in gasoline, and this is no time to be handing out matches,” Yarbro said of the newly-established Memphis Safety Task Force , which began its operations on Monday and includes the National Guard authorization by Gov. Lee at the request of President Donald Trump.
