A 70-year-old man was critically injured Tuesday night after he was struck by a car while crossing in a Liliha crosswalk, police said.

The collision occurred about 9:10 p.m. on the Liliha Street on-ramp to the H-1 freeway eastbound, according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section.

Police said a 61-year-old man was driving south on Liliha Street with a green left-turn arrow when he turned onto the freeway on-ramp and hit the pedestrian, who was crossing against the “Do Not Walk” signal.

Emergency Medical Services transported the pedestrian to a hospital in critical condition.

The driver remained at the scene and was not injured. Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
