Although Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency saw an increase in calls to its fireworks hotline and 911 call center over the Fourth of July holiday, the agency also noted a 28 percent reduction in fires caused by fireworks, according to new data from the county fire marshal’s office.

The agency had a total of 147 fires reported between July 3 and July 5. Of that total, 68 were brush or grass fires and 27 were residential fires.

“I think that the city of Vancouver has done a pretty good job at making sure folks know that (fireworks are) banned within the city, which is a fair amount of the population,” Deputy Fire Marshal Rick Searls told the Clark County Council during a work session Wednesday.
