On-and-off showers are possible throughout the day on Wednesday in Northern California, which will likely lead to soggy conditions for many in the region.

Oct. 1 also marks the start of the water year for California. Meteorologist Tamara Berg said the month can typically see 0.85 inches of rain on average.

Rain will be steadier in the afternoon, Berg said.

Better chances of rain are expected Thursday morning and continue before the weather system moves out of the area Friday afternoon. Scattered Sierra thunderstorms could also pass through on both those days.
