A huge chunk of a Bronx public housing building collapsed during a gas explosion Wednesday morning -- miraculously injuring no one, officials said. First responders descended on the Mitchel Houses building on Alexander Avenue near East 135th Street around 8:10 a.m., on a report of a gas explosion inside, the FDNY said. Firefighters found that the incinerator shaft had collapsed inside the 20-story building, officials said. The NYPD responded and secured the building, setting up a perimeter around it.
